Snowflake to Acquire Select Star to Expand Horizon Catalog’s View of Enterprise Data for Next-Gen AI

Today's leading enterprises have Snowflake at the center of their data estate. But the full context of their valuable data assets—including where they came from and how they're being used—is scattered across upstream and downstream systems like databases, BI platforms and orchestration tools. This fragmentation makes it difficult to discover the right data asset and understand the full context around it. Now, in the age of AI, this limited context is a problem not only for humans, but also for agents.

Enter Snowflake Horizon Catalog, which provides unified context and governance for AI over all data. At Snowflake Summit 2025, we shared how we’re extending Horizon Catalog capabilities like search and lineage to data and AI assets that exist in systems outside of Snowflake.

To accelerate that vision, we’re thrilled to announce that Snowflake has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Select Star team and platform technology. Select Star's integrations with database systems like PostgreSQL and MySQL, business intelligence tools like Tableau and Power BI, and data pipeline/orchestration tools like dbt and Airflow will help us expand Horizon Catalog’s view of an enterprise’s data estate. This broader context will help agentic AI experiences like Snowflake Intelligence and Cortex Code deeply understand an enterprise’s data and how to extract insight from it.

Our shared commitment to helping users discover, understand and gain insight from data using AI makes the Select Star technology a natural fit for Horizon Catalog. The Select Star team, which includes founder and CEO Shinji Kim, will play a key role in driving its next phase of innovation.
