Overview

MQTT is a widely adopted open messaging protocol for the Industrial IoT (IIoT) space. Yet without standard conventions for Topic Namespace and Payload representation, many OEM providers and software vendors have defined their own standards, resulting in interoperability issues. To address these issues, Inductive Automation, the maker of Ignition, and Cirrus Link has partnered with Snowflake to develop the IIoT Bridge Adapter for Snowflake.

Opportunity

A key driver of Industry 4.0 is the ability to collect and analyze vast amounts of data that were siloed in IT and OT platforms. While a data platform to access both IT and OT data can enable more advanced analytics and accelerate decision-making, IIoT data ingestion can be complicated and time-consuming.  An MQTT bridge can make this process simpler and more efficient.

Solution

Data from CirrusLink IIoT Bridge is ingested into Snowflake using Snowpipe Streaming SDK. The data is mirrored to another database, in which a user can model based on their needs. Using views that are built dynamically via templates, the data can be fed to downstream systems like UI or digital twin dashboards.

In partnership with CirrusLink, the “IIoT Bridge for Snowflake” solution ingests OT data into Snowflake and dynamically builds out the various machine and /device views with zero coding effort.
