Uniting is a not-for-profit organization with people at the core of everything we do. My responsibilities center around our data analytics platform, where we use Snowflake to ensure our operations are stable, secure, and efficient. A large part of my role involves co-working with business teams to help them understand our data team’s product offerings. We are doing much more than just reports and dashboards; with the new features within Snowflake, our potential to support the organization has grown significantly.

Uniting is currently in the third year of an ambitious ten-year strategy, and our digital technology strategy is a major contributor to that goal. On the data and analytics side, we need to provide the right information to our business teams so they can make decisions that are quicker and better informed. This isn't limited to structured data; we are also leveraging unstructured data to drive these insights.

Ultimately, we want to deliver the highest quality of care to the people we serve, and that comes through digital transformation. Many of our frontline workers are not native English speakers, so we are implementing a digital assistant called "Buddy." This tool allows them to dictate care notes in their native language, which are then translated into English, accessed, and analyzed. By integrating these care notes with incident descriptions and other data sources, we can move toward "predictive care"—a goal everyone in the industry is striving for.

"Data for Good" is a concept very dear to my heart. We must ensure that data is accessible to everyone in a format they can easily consume and use. As we move forward with Snowflake, we will increasingly utilize Large Language Models (LLMs). To ensure these models give us the results we want, we need diversity and inclusion in how we build our teams.

Our goal is to spend more time with the people we serve. We don't achieve that by performing administrative tasks, typing out texts, or scribbling notes on the side. The idea is to "hold the hand, not the pen." To deliver the business outcomes outlined in our strategy, we need to leverage more data, all of which will live in Snowflake. We want everyone in the business to essentially become a data analyst, and with these new features, that is becoming a reality.

It has been a joy working with Snowflake; it is a true partnership. They have been with us every step of the journey, supporting us, introducing us to new products, and even supporting our hackathons. It has simply been a great relationship.
