Tyler Akidau is one of the industry’s foremost experts in stream processing. He is the author of the hugely popular Streaming 101 and Streaming 102 articles as well as the Streaming Systems book published by O’Reilly. Additionally, Tyler is the primary author of the Dataflow Model paper and a principal author of the One SQL to Rule Them All paper.
Though deeply passionate and vocal about the capabilities and importance of stream processing, Tyler believes that batch and streaming are two sides of the same coin and his dream is seeing the seamless merging between the two. He joined Snowflake in 2020 to make that dream a reality.
Prior to joining Snowflake, Tyler spent 10 years working on distributed data processing at Google, where he was the Technical Lead for the Data Processing Languages & Systems group and was responsible for Google’s massive-scale stream and batch processing systems, including: Google Cloud Dataflow, Apache Beam, Flume, MapReduce, and MillWheel.
