Snowflake to offer free training for 150 civil servants during ‘Get Cloud Certified This Autumn’ programme
London, UK – 22 October – Snowflake, the AI Data Cloud Company, has announced its support of the UK Government’s ‘Get Cloud Certified This Autumn’ programme, which aims to build vital technology skills among civil servants. In collaboration with the Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO), the programme will see up to 150 civil servants become fully qualified SnowPro engineers, empowering them with the abilities needed to drive digital transformation in the public sector.
The Get Cloud Certified programme has an ambitious target of upskilling 90% of senior civil servants, and is open to anyone with a public sector email address, including workers at the NHS, police and government organisations. Snowflake’s investment in the programme – with its SnowPro certification rewarding an individual’s knowledge to apply specific core expertise implementing and migrating to Snowflake – will help the Civil Service to deal with critical challenges around training and recruitment. The Civil Service Digital Skills Survey found that over 75% of civil servants want to receive more digital skills training.
The number of digital and data specialists in government has already nearly doubled in the past five years, from 2.8% in 2018 to 5% in 2023, as the government becomes one of the largest digital and data employers in Britain. Building data skills will be a vital part of this change, which begins by applying for the training at a dedicated Snowflake landing page. The Get Cloud Certified programme will soon launch a year-round initiative around cloud training and certification programmes.
Snowflake is already helping large public sector institutions in the UK to deal with challenges such as allowing government and healthcare institutions to retain control of data at near-unlimited scale. Snowflake works with organisations as diverse as NHS Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership and the Met Office.
James Hall, VP & General Manager UK&I at Snowflake, said, “Attracting and retaining tech talent is one of the key challenges facing the government today. Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud is already enabling the UK public sector to tackle some of its most critical challenges, and offering vital training to civil servants across government, NHS organisations and police organisations was a natural step. The training will help government departments shift towards new, digital ways to tackle big challenges, and provide additional value to citizens and taxpayers.”
Martin Turner, Senior Change Delivery Manager at CDDO added, “It’s great to have Snowflake onboard this crucial CDDO initiative, which we hope will be very influential to advancing the public sector. As part of a wider digital upskilling initiative, Snowflake’s training will be key to accelerating data use in government, and enabling our organisations to derive value from data rapidly, securely and safely.”
