Today we are delighted to share that Snowflake and Anaconda are partnering to provide the growing Python community of data scientists, data engineers, and developers with effortless access to open-source Python packages to build secure and scalable data pipelines and machine learning workflows. As part of the strategic partnership, Snowflake Ventures has also invested in Anaconda.
This partnership and investment will enhance the Snowpark developer experience to extend data programmability with Snowflake beyond SQL.
How Snowflake and Anaconda Will Enable Innovation
However, package dependency management and security can get in the way of innovation. Without the right tool set, resolving dependencies between different packages can land developers in “dependency hell,” wasting valuable time dealing with broken Python environments. And in an age where cybersecurity incidents are among the greatest threats facing organizations, the use of open-source software without the right security and governance guardrails in place puts organizations at risk. According to Hacker News, open-source packages often have security flaws and the repositories themselves make good targets for supply chain attacks, putting users in danger of being compromised.
Anaconda addresses these challenges, enabling organizations to harness the power of open source software with seamless dependency management, while enabling enterprise security standards. Today, Anaconda has a vibrant community of over 25 million users and a growing number of enterprise customers are adopting its platform as the de facto standard for Python package management. As part of this partnership, we look forward to extending the benefits of Anaconda to the broader Snowflake developer community.
