IAM

Identity Access Management (IAM) is a comprehensive framework designed to manage and control digital identities within an organization’s IT environment. IAM systems ensure that only authorized individuals or entities have access to specific resources, systems, or data, while also maintaining security and compliance.

IAM involves the administration of user identities, roles, and permissions throughout their lifecycle, encompassing processes such as onboarding, provisioning, authentication, and de-provisioning. Through IAM, organizations can enforce security policies, define access levels, and monitor user activities to safeguard sensitive information and prevent unauthorized access.

Key components of IAM include:

  • Authentication mechanisms (e.g. multi-factor authentication, passwords)
  • Authorization protocols (specifying who has access to what)
  • Identity governance (overseeing the entire identity lifecycle)

IIAM systems contribute to improving cybersecurity by mitigating risks associated with unauthorized access, data breaches, and insider threats.
