THEATER SESSIONS

Accelerate and Scale Your Cloud Analytics

Brought to you by Talend

Building a data warehouse has never been easier with cloud-native data warehouses like Snowflake. As a longtime partner, Talend has been providing tools to ingest, transform, cleanse, and govern data in Snowflake to provide trusted data at the speed and scale for business. This session will review how Talend can quickly get your initial data warehouse project up and running with the data needed as well as how to scale that from a departmental solution to an enterprise data warehouse.

Agile Data Modeling: Introduction to Data Vault Modeling

Snowflake is schema agnostic and performs well with any data modeling approach. However, once customers move to Snowflake they often ask if there is a more agile, modern approach to modeling their data warehouse so they can grow it incrementally. Data Vault Data Modeling is an agile data modeling technique for designing highly flexible, scalable, and adaptable data structures for enterprise data warehouse repositories. It is a hybrid approach using the best of 3NF and dimensional modeling. It is not a replacement for star schema data marts (and should not be used as such). This approach has been used in projects around the world (Europe, Australia, USA) for over 15 years and is now growing in popularity. The purpose of this presentation is to provide attendees with an introduction to the components of the Data Vault Data Model, what they are for and how to build them.

Agile Methods and Data Warehousing

Most people will agree that data warehousing and business intelligence projects take too long to deliver tangible results. Often by the time a solution is in place, the business needs have changed. With all the talk about Agile development methods like SCRUM and Extreme Programming, the question arises as to how these approaches can be used to deliver data warehouse and business intelligence projects faster. This presentation will look at the 12 principles behind the Agile Manifesto and see how they might be applied in the context of a data warehouse project. The goal is to determine a method or methods to get a more rapid (2-4 weeks) delivery of portions of an enterprise data warehouse architecture.

Automated Machine Learning with DataRobot and Snowflake

Brought to you by DataRobot

Predictive modeling using machine learning techniques is transforming every aspect of modern business. Traditional approaches to machine learning is a time-consuming, resource-intensive and highly error-prone process. Automated machine learning platforms can make the process of building highly accurate predictive models fast and efficient. In this session, we will show how DataRobot can collaborate with data scientists to quickly build hundreds of highly accurate predictive models in a transparent and flexible manner, generate deep insights and deliver immediate value to business with easy deployment options. We will also illustrate how Snowflake users can bring in data from their data warehouse to DataRobot, delivering the performance, simplicity, concurrency, and affordability not possible with other data analytics platforms.

Data Modeling: Making Sense of Schema on Read

With the increasing prevalence of semi-structured data from IoT devices, web logs, and other sources, data architects and modelers must learn how to interpret and project data from formats like JSON. Although the concept of loading data without upfront modeling is appealing to many, to make sense of the data and use it to drive business value, we have to turn that schema-on-read data into a real schema. That means data modeling. This session will walk through both simple and complex JSON documents, decompose them, and then turn them into a representative data model. It will show you how they might look using both traditional 3NF and data vault styles of modeling.

Enable modern Test/Dev with Snowflake

We know that creating and maintaining test/dev environments has many
challenges: test/dev typically has a smaller subset of production data because creating complete copies is time consuming and costly; on top of that, maintaining multiple environments is administratively challenging.
In this session, you’ll learn new ways of enabling your teams to
instantly create and manage their own test /dev environments whenever
they want with no impact to other users. We will also show how your team can run identical test/dev and product environments and
seamlessly switch back & forth like never before.

Enabling AI Initiatives Through Operationalization and Self-Serve Analytics

Brought to you by Dataiku

Many organizations with the hope of becoming more data-driven ask the question: self-service analytics, or data science operationalization – which will get me where I need to be? And the answer is: you need both together. The fact is, it’s the interplay and balance between operationalization (o16n) and self-service analytics (SSA) initiatives that makes a successful data-powered company that executes on all projects to its fullest potential. While at first glance the two appear to be completely different (maybe even contradictory), it’s precisely because they differ in value, scale, and more that they round out a complete data strategy. This talk takes focuses on how to implement a complete strategy for both, pitfalls to avoid along the way, and use cases of large enterprises who have successfully implemented the two.
