Snowflake Announces General Availability on AWS in Tokyo

Increase in Customer Demand for Snowflake on AWS delivers the cloud-built data platform to a much wider and global customer base

SAN MATEO, Calif. – February 3, 2020 – Snowflake, the cloud data platform, today announced the general availability of Snowflake on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Tokyo. The expansion follows Snowflake’s announcement of their first Japan office opening in Shibuya City and reflects a rising customer demand for Snowflake on local AWS instances globally.

Snowflake leverages AWS infrastructure services such as data storage and compute, and supports popular BI and ETL tools from the prominent cloud provider. The cloud data platform offering includes innovations such as Snowflake’s secure, governed Public and Private Data Exchanges. Snowflake’s metadata services on AWS in Japan will also run on the latest open source FoundationDB as the company continues to make contributions and support new features on the platform.

This expansion will continue Snowflake’s efforts to support its customers with operations in Tokyo that want to keep their data local. Local availability provides customers with fast, low-latency access to their data, while accelerating their global data initiatives by satisfying their country-specific data needs.

Analysts project that from 2018 to 2023, the public cloud services market will grow nearly 20.4% annually and Snowflake is poised to support the growing need for a modern, cloud-built data platform.

Snowflake’s deployment on AWS will empower Japanese customers, such as Intage Inc. to leverage the instant elasticity of the single platform to advance their organization by providing quick access to data insights for all their users, in a simple, secure and governed environment.

“We believe that the power and flexibility of Snowflake’s multi-cluster is an integral part of delivering value quickly to many customers. We were looking forward to having that performance available in Tokyo.” Mr. Kawaguchi, Makoto of INTAGE TECHNOSPHERE Inc. said.

Join Snowflake on Thursday, February 27, 2020 for a free event, “Snowflake Japan Product Launch Day”, celebrating the first product launch by Snowflake Japan.
