After a prolonged pandemic slowdown, South Africa’s economy is expected to rebound through 20221. We’re excited to be a part of the recovery by helping South African companies gain a competitive advantage with Snowflake’s Data Cloud.

Over the past two years, Snowflake has gained a strong customer and partner base in the country. This includes TymeBank, the first bank in South Africa to put its core banking platform in the cloud. It uses Snowflake’s Data Cloud to unify data from all of its systems and applications into a single, automated ecosystem to get an instant, holistic view of customer data.

“Data analytics and insights are embedded in the fabric of TymeBank’s culture,” said Shirley Querl, Manager, Enterprise Data at TymeBank. “As a bank, we place focus on the customer while Snowflake expertly manages our data platform.”

In addition to supporting the country’s enterprises, we’re focusing on accelerating growth for South Africa’s start-ups and midsize companies. We’re also working with our technology partners in the region such as Vantage to help financial services, retail, and technology companies leverage data. These industries in particular are playing crucial roles in South Africa’s economic recovery, and data is an important part of their business success. According to a recent Economist Intelligence Unit survey sponsored by Snowflake, the financial services industry sees expanding its customer base as the biggest opportunity from using data-driven insights.2

With the expansion of both new and established companies in financial services, retail, and technology, South Africa is on the cusp of phenomenal business growth. We’re thrilled to bring the power of the Data Cloud to South Africa and demonstrate how easy it is to turn any organization into a data-driven business.

To introduce South African companies to Snowflake’s Data Cloud, Snowflake recently hosted an online event showcasing how the Data Cloud powers data strategies and industry-leading solutions for companies such as TymeBank. To learn more, visit the event page here and stay tuned for the recording, which will be added soon!
