WHAT TO EXPECT

Snowflake Ascent: Data Engineering Edition is a free, full-day, in-person, step-by-step workshop delivered by Snowflake’s Certified Instructors where you’ll learn foundational knowledge of Snowflake’s data engineering capabilities via lectures, demos and hands-on labs.

You’ll receive a virtual Snowflake badge that verifies that you have completed the course to share on social media and other virtual platforms. You will also receive an exclusive offer on Snowflake Training and Certification.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Snowflake Ascent: Data Engineering Edition has been designed for those involved in analytics tasks, development and data pipeline creation. It’s for Data Analysts, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Database Architects, Database Administrators and Data Application Developers.

ACQUIRED SKILLS

  • Understand Snowflake’s architecture and the role of each component
  • Recognise the data engineering lifecycle and Snowflake’s supporting features
  • Efficiently manage semi-structured data within Snowflake
  • Identify and automate the steps involved in a data pipeline

COURSE PREREQUISITES

  • A fundamental understanding of SQL
  • Bring your own laptop and charger
  • Snowflake Community account (sign up here)
  • Snowflake free-trial account (sign up here)
  • Attendees are requested to create an Enterprise Edition trial account on AWS-Region = Canada (Central)

The workshop is delivered in-person by Snowflake Certified Instructors.

Module 1: Getting Started and Snowflake Overview

This section will outline the Snowflake platform, starting with Intro to Data Cloud: an end-to-end walkthrough on the Snowflake architecture including core workloads – data warehousing, data lakes, data engineering, data science, data applications and data sharing.

You will learn how to set-up a trial account, how to navigate between the classic UI and the new Snowsight UI, and what is an Account URL.

Module 2: Project Kick-Off and Database Setup

We will walk through the Snowflake hierarchy, roles, database setup and data loading. You will be introduced to the various stages, and learn how to load data into Snowflake.

Module 3: Time Zones, Dates and Timestamps

Learn about the extensive support for various types of date formats and timezone formats available on Snowflake. The section also outlines Snowflake’s support for schema detection and schema inference.

Module 4: Extracting, Transforming and Loading

Aligning with the data lifecycle, you will learn how to perform extract, transform and load (ETL) on the Snowflake Data Cloud. You will also learn about useful features in the Snowflake marketplace.

You will be introduced to tasks and various DML operations that can be used to transform data reliably.

Module 6: Productionizing across the Pipeline

Get hands-on with features like task history, auditing task history via dashboards, resource monitors and Snowflake alerts.

A game-changer feature will be introduced to you: Dynamic Tables can reliably let you keep data up-to-date without writing complex pipelines.

Learn how you can change data capture and related user cases in this section where we take you through 2 features: Snowpipe and Streams.
