This partnership and investment will enhance the Snowpark developer experience to extend data programmability with Snowflake beyond SQL.
How Snowflake and Anaconda Will Enable Innovation
According to a recent survey by Anaconda, Python is the most popular language among data scientists, and it’s rapidly gaining traction among the broader developer community as well. Stack Overflow’s recent developer survey showed that Python now sits in the list of the top five most popular languages, joining SQL, Java, HTML/CSS, and JavaScript. Thanks to Python’s powerful syntax and rich ecosystem of open-source packages, organizations can leverage Python to accelerate anything from data analysis to machine learning and from web development to software testing.
However, package dependency management and security can get in the way of innovation. Without the right tool set, resolving dependencies between different packages can land developers in “dependency hell,” wasting valuable time dealing with broken Python environments. And in an age where cybersecurity incidents are among the greatest threats facing organizations, the use of open-source software without the right security and governance guardrails in place puts organizations at risk. According to Hacker News, open-source packages often have security flaws and the repositories themselves make good targets for supply chain attacks, putting users in danger of being compromised.
